    Biography Abstract. J. J. Thomson was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in "in recognition of the great merits of his theoretical and experimental investigations on the conduction of electricity by gases.". J. J.     Joseph John Thomson () was appointed to the Chair of Experimental Physics in the Cavendish Laboratory at the University of Cambridge at the age of 28 and started research on the. Francis William Aston was an English chemist and physicist. He is famous for being the first scientist who developed a positive-ray apparatus called "mass spectrograph" and being the first who identified two distinct isotopes of neon. Aston is also noted for his experiments with other gases and identification of naturally occurring isotopes.
